- FAQ&A Resources | Making The Grade
Your Questions... Answered. What resources do you provide to supplement tutoring sessions? We offer a variety of resources in addition to personalised lesson plans depending on your child's individual needs. These can include practice exercises, past exam papers, homework tasks, suggested links for additional practice and research and supplemental materials like videos and readings. All these resources aim to reinforce what is covered in the tutoring sessions and provide further learning opportunities outside the sessions. With online tuition these resources will be digital and you may be required to print resources from time to time. With face to face tuition your tutor will provide resources as needed for the lesson planned.
- F2F Tuition | Making The Grade
Face-to-Face Tuition We understand that parents and students have various preferences when it comes to choosing the mode of tuition and that for some students, in person tuition is the preferred option for a number of reasons, which is why we offer traditional face to face tuition across Cardiff and Newport. This is of course dependent on your exact location and distance from the right tutor, and naturally, face-to-face tuition incurs higher costs compared to online alternatives. All our tuition services include: A 1 hour live session with the child. Use of our systems to access lessons, recordings and resources where applicable. All additional time before and after the sessions spent planning, preparation of personalised session content/resources and homework material. All associated administration costs including payment processing, support and regular progress reviews to ensure consistency of provision. Your individual Parent Portal, allowing access to your account details and lessons reports for each lesson, full use of our online systems for bookings, payments and resources including lesson recordings if applicable. Unlike online tuition, factors such as tutor travel time and expenses and additional resources required for in-person sessions can contribute to increased overall expenses. Why would you choose in person tuition? Personal Connection and Rapport: One of the significant advantages of face-to-face tuition is the opportunity for students to develop a personal connection and rapport with their tutor. In-person interactions allow for non-verbal cues and a sense of presence that can enhance the learning experience for some. This personal connection can foster a strong tutor-student-family relationship, leading to increased engagement and motivation. Physical Clarification and Demonstration: Face-to-face tuition provides students with the advantage of real-time clarification and demonstration. Tutors can address questions, provide immediate explanations, and demonstrate complex concepts using visual aids, manipulatives, or practical examples. This hands-on approach can be particularly beneficial for subjects that require physical manipulation or experimentation. Reduced Screen Time: Face-to-face tuition offers a break from screen time, which can be beneficial for students who already spend a significant amount of time engaging in online activities. It provides an opportunity for students to engage in learning without relying solely on digital devices, allowing for a more balanced approach to education. Face-to-face tuition offers several benefits, largely related to the age of the student and their individual learning style and needs. However, it also comes with drawbacks such as limited flexibility, geographic constraints, higher costs, and limited tutor options. We understand the importance of choice and flexibility in education and cater to diverse learning needs and preferences. To discuss your child’s options, book your free consultation today! - FAQ&A Lessons | Making The Grade
Your Questions... Answered. How are sessions delivered? Most tutoring sessions are conducted online using a secure, interactive platform that enables real-time communication between the tutor and student. It's as close as you can get to a face-to-face session, providing the convenience of learning from home without sacrificing the quality of interaction. With the additional use of interactive whiteboards and collaborative documents and tools, students get the best of both worlds having everything organised and available online whilst having the personalised 1:1 time with the tutor. If agreed by both parties, lessons or parts of lessons can also be recorded and stored on your personal portal for reference. This is sometimes useful or revision purposes. For some students we know face to face tuition is a preferred option. A tutor will plan the lesson and create the resources to deliver in person either in a students home or agreed local community setting such as a Hwb. All lessons, regardless of whether online or face to face will have been planned specifically for your child based on their needs and progress. For any student under the age of 18 it is a requirement in line with our Safeguarding Policy that an adult be present on the premises throughout the lesson. This is applicable for online lessons also. How often are tutoring sessions and how long do they last? The frequency and duration of tutoring sessions can be tailored according to the student's needs. However, a typical schedule is one or two sessions per week, each lasting for 1 hour. For A Level and Degree students it is common to book longer sessions as more complex content is being explored. In the run up to exams it is also common to book additional sessions to work on exam technique as well as content. We aim to be as flexible as possible and will accommodate this into our tutors timetables wherever we can.

- FAQ&A Matching students | Making The Grade
Your Questions... Answered. How do you match students to tutors? We take great care in matching students with tutors. Following your assessment and meeting with the student, we will consider factors like the student's academic needs, learning style, personality, and the tutor's expertise and teaching style. We will then discuss the proposed learning pathway with a tutor before agreeing to assign them to the student. We may discuss the opportunity with several tutors before deciding on the right fit for your child (we never disclose any personal names or details to tutors at this stage). We believe in the importance of a good match for optimal learning and strive to ensure that every student feels comfortable and supported in their learning journey. If for any reason we feel we do not have the right tutor for your child we will happily search for you and use our colleagues and contacts within the industry to either provide you with, or put you in direct contact with the tutor that is right for you.

- FAQ&A Safeguarding | Making The Grade
Your Questions... Answered. How do you ensure the safety and security of students during online sessions? Safety is a top priority for us. Our own online platform (along with others used by individual tutors such as Google Classrooms, Teams or Zoom) are secure and have the ability to record sessions if required although this is not currently a requirement. As a company we also conduct thorough background checks on all our tutors to ensure they meet our high standards of integrity and professionalism. All tutors hold Enhanced DBS Certificates and adhere to our Safeguarding Policy. Whether online or face to face, it is a requirement that an adult be on the premises for the duration of the session. Our safeguarding policy can be found in the links at the bottom of the page. If you, or the tutor have any safeguarding concerns you can discuss these directly and immediately with your assigned education consultion or head office at any time.
