1:1 Online Tuition Our 1:1 live online tuition service offers a unique, personalised and effective approach to helping your child succeed in their academic journey. We understand you have a choice, and wish to ensure you are making the right choices for you and your child. 1:1 tuition has many benefits for the students and although many students had a poor experience of this during lockdown, technology and systems have hugely developed, making online tuition the preferred option for many students, families and tutors. But why?... Here we look at the benefits of online learning and the specific approach from the team at Making the Grade. Personalised Attention: We understand that every child has unique learning needs and preferences. With 1:1 live online tuition, your child receives individualised attention from highly qualified tutors who tailor their teaching methods to suit your child's learning style. This personalised approach ensures that your child's specific strengths and areas for improvement are addressed effectively, maximising their learning potential. Customised Learning Experience: Unlike traditional classroom settings or larger online group sessions, our 1:1 live online tuition provides a highly personalised learning experience. We focus exclusively on your child's individual needs, allowing for targeted instruction and immediate feedback. This customised approach ensures that your child receives the attention and support necessary to thrive academically which results in much faster progress. Individualised Pace and Progress: In a traditional classroom setting, students often face challenges in keeping up with the pace of the curriculum or struggle to grasp certain concepts. With 1:1 live online tuition, your child can learn at their own pace, focusing on areas that require extra attention or spending more time on challenging topics. Our tutors continuously assess your child's progress and adapt their teaching strategies accordingly, ensuring optimal learning outcomes. Enhanced Confidence and Motivation: As with face to face tutoring, the individualised nature of our online tuition fosters a supportive and nurturing environment, promoting your child's confidence and motivation. Our tutors provide personalised feedback, encouragement, and positive reinforcement, instilling a sense of accomplishment and self-belief in your child. As they experience progress and success, their motivation to learn grows, leading to improved academic performance and a lifelong love for learning. Access to Expert Tutors: Making the Grade is proud to have a team of highly qualified and experienced tutors who are experts in their respective fields. Online tuition gives you access to all our UK based tutors who have knowledge of both the Welsh and English Curriculum and exam boards. Our tut ors are qualified teachers or subject experts and have access to our in-house tutor training, ensuring that your child gains access to exceptional educators who are passionate about helping students succeed academically and beyond. Flexible and Convenient: One of the greatest advantages of online tuition is its flexibility and convenience. Your child can receive high-quality education from the comfort of home, eliminating the need for travelling to and from a centre and waiting around for them to finish. Our tutors are available at flexible hours to accommodate your family's busy routine, allowing them to learn at a time that suits them best. Our Approach Personalised Tutor Matching: Based on your child's unique requirements, we will carefully match them with a tutor who possesses the expertise and teaching style that aligns with their needs. Our tutors are subject specialists who excel in delivering engaging and effective online tuition. Technology-driven Advantages: Online tuition offers unique advantages enabled by technology. Making the Grade utilises online learning tools and platforms to create a seamless virtual classroom experience. Online tuition provides an interactive and engaging learning environment for your child. Through video conferencing, virtual whiteboards, and other collaborative tools, our tutors foster active participation and discussions, bringing subjects to life and captivating your child's interest. This interactive approach not only fosters active participation, but deepens understanding, making learning enjoyable and effective, whilst enhancing your child's understanding of the subject matter and cultivating critical thinking, problem-solving skills, inde pendent learning, revision skills and effective communication. Free Consultation: We initially schedule a consultation to meet with yourself and the student either face to face or online. This is to discuss your child's learning needs, academic goals, and any specific areas of concern. This initial assessment helps us understand how we can best support your child's educational journey. It also allows us to match them with the right tutor and put an initial learning plan in place to ‘hit the ground running’ in their first session. Progress Tracking and Feedback: Your child’s tutor will continually monitor your child's progress, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for further improvement. You will be provided with a lesson report for every lesson in your designated parent portal. Continuity and Consistency: Your child will benefit from continuity and consistency in their learning. Unlike sporadic tutoring sessions or constantly changing tutors, we strive to maintain a stable tutor-student relationship. This continuity allows tutors to understand your child's learning style, track progress over time, and provide consistent support tailored to their specific needs. Ongoing Support: Our commitment to your child's success extends beyond the online sessions. Our team is available to address any queries or concerns you may have throughout the tuition journey. We believe in partnering with parents to create a supportive learning ecosystem. Choosing 1:1 live online tuition with Making the Grade offers numerous benefits for your child's educational journey. • FAQ&A Matching students | Making The Grade

Your Questions... Answered. How do you match students to tutors? We take great care in matching students with tutors. Following your assessment and meeting with the student, we will consider factors like the student's academic needs, learning style, personality, and the tutor's expertise and teaching style. We will then discuss the proposed learning pathway with a tutor before agreeing to assign them to the student. We may discuss the opportunity with several tutors before deciding on the right fit for your child (we never disclose any personal names or details to tutors at this stage). We believe in the importance of a good match for optimal learning and strive to ensure that every student feels comfortable and supported in their learning journey. If for any reason we feel we do not have the right tutor for your child we will happily search for you and use our colleagues and contacts within the industry to either provide you with, or put you in direct contact with the tutor that is right for you.

  • FAQ&A Tutor matching | Making The Grade

Your Questions... Answered. What is the process if we are not satisfied with a tutor or if the student-tutor dynamic isn't working? Thankfully, due to the processes in place throughout your enrolment this is rare, but we are all human and occasionally things are not perfect. If for any reason you're not satisfied with the tutor, we encourage you to bring it to our attention immediately. Sometimes it may take a few sessions to 'settle in' but we will do our best to resolve the issue, whether that involves working with the tutor to adjust their approach or finding a new tutor who might be a better fit.

  • Small Group Online Tuition | Making The Grade

Small Group Online Tuition We understand that different students have varying preferences and learning styles, so in addition to our 1:1 online tuition, we offer small group tuition where students can benefit from collaborative learning in a supportive environment. Although 1:1 is hugely effective, small group tuition can be equally as beneficial for some students whilst keeping the costs down for parents. As with all our advice and guidance, this page outlines some of the benefits and drawbacks to group tuition and is here to assist you in making an informed decision for your child's educational needs. Please contact us and have a chat if you have any questions or wish to discuss your child's individual requirements. Benefits of Group Tuition Collaboration and Peer Learning: Small group tuition provides students with the opportunity to collaborate with their peers and engage in interactive learning experiences. Working alongside others who share similar academic goals can foster a supportive and motivating environment. Students can learn from one another, exchange ideas, and develop teamwork and communication skills. Enhanced Engagement and Participation: In small group settings, students often feel more comfortable actively participating in discussions and activities. The smaller class size allows for increased interaction with the tutor, promoting a higher level of engagement. Students can ask questions, share their thoughts, and benefit from personalized attention while still benefiting from the social dynamics of a group. Different Perspectives and Ideas: When students come together in a small group, they bring different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. This diversity of ideas can enrich the learning process, exposing students to various viewpoints and approaches to problem-solving. It encourages critical thinking and expands their understanding of the subject matter. Cost-Effective Option: Compared to 1:1 tuition, small group tuition can be a more cost-effective option for parents. By sharing the session cost among a small number of students, the overall expense per student is reduced while still providing high-quality instruction. This makes small group tuition an attractive choice for families seeking personalized attention within a budget. Whilst Group Tuition is a suitable option for some students it does have it's drawbacks for others. Reduced In dividual Attention: In small group tuition, the tutor's attention is divided among multiple students. While tutors strive to provide individualised support, it may not be as extensive as in 1:1 tuition. Students may receive slightly less one-on-one time with the tutor, which could impact their ability to address specific learning needs or challenges. Differences in Pacing and Learning Styles: Students within a small group may have varying learning paces and styles. This diversity can create challenges in terms of accommodating individual needs and preferences. Our groups are carefully constructed to ensure all students are working at the same level and Tutors strive to strike a balance to ensure the material is covered effectively and tailored to the group's collective understanding. Group Dynamics: Small group tuition relies on positive group dynamics for optimal effectiveness. While collaboration is encouraged, occasionally, group dynamics may hinder the learning process. Conflicting personalities or different levels of participation can impact the overall experience. We aim to prevent this as much as possible and Tutors play a crucial role in managing and fostering a harmonious learning environment. Limited Flexibility: Small group tuition follows a strict schedule which may limit flexibility for students with busy schedules or varying commitments. Unlike 1:1 tuition, if a student is unable to attend the lesson will still take place and cannot be rescheduled. Book a FREE Consultation

  • FAQ&A Lessons | Making The Grade

Your Questions... Answered. How are sessions delivered? Most tutoring sessions are conducted online using a secure, interactive platform that enables real-time communication between the tutor and student. It's as close as you can get to a face-to-face session, providing the convenience of learning from home without sacrificing the quality of interaction. With the additional use of interactive whiteboards and collaborative documents and tools, students get the best of both worlds having everything organised and available online whilst having the personalised 1:1 time with the tutor. If agreed by both parties, lessons or parts of lessons can also be recorded and stored on your personal portal for reference. This is sometimes useful or revision purposes. For some students we know face to face tuition is a preferred option. A tutor will plan the lesson and create the resources to deliver in person either in a students home or agreed local community setting such as a Hwb. All lessons, regardless of whether online or face to face will have been planned specifically for your child based on their needs and progress. For any student under the age of 18 it is a requirement in line with our Safeguarding Policy that an adult be present on the premises throughout the lesson. This is applicable for online lessons also. How often are tutoring sessions and how long do they last? The frequency and duration of tutoring sessions can be tailored according to the student's needs. However, a typical schedule is one or two sessions per week, each lasting for 1 hour. For A Level and Degree students it is common to book longer sessions as more complex content is being explored. In the run up to exams it is also common to book additional sessions to work on exam technique as well as content. We aim to be as flexible as possible and will accommodate this into our tutors timetables wherever we can.

  • F2F Tuition | Making The Grade

Face-to-Face Tuition We understand that parents and students have various preferences when it comes to choosing the mode of tuition and that for some students, in person tuition is the preferred option for a number of reasons, which is why we offer traditional face to face tuition across Cardiff and Newport. This is of course dependent on your exact location and distance from the right tutor, and naturally, face-to-face tuition incurs higher costs compared to online alternatives. All our tuition services include: A 1 hour live session with the child. Use of our systems to access lessons, recordings and resources where applicable. All additional time before and after the sessions spent planning, preparation of personalised session content/resources and homework material. All associated administration costs including payment processing, support and regular progress reviews to ensure consistency of provision. Your individual Parent Portal, allowing access to your account details and lessons reports for each lesson, full use of our online systems for bookings, payments and resources including lesson recordings if applicable. Unlike online tuition, factors such as tutor travel time and expenses and additional resources required for in-person sessions can contribute to increased overall expenses. Why would you choose in person tuition? Personal Connection and Rapport: One of the significant advantages of face-to-face tuition is the opportunity for students to develop a personal connection and rapport with their tutor. In-person interactions allow for non-verbal cues and a sense of presence that can enhance the learning experience for some. This personal connection can foster a strong tutor-student-family relationship, leading to increased engagement and motivation. Physical Clarification and Demonstration: Face-to-face tuition provides students with the advantage of real-time clarification and demonstration. Tutors can address questions, provide immediate explanations, and demonstrate complex concepts using visual aids, manipulatives, or practical examples. This hands-on approach can be particularly beneficial for subjects that require physical manipulation or experimentation. Reduced Screen Time: Face-to-face tuition offers a break from screen time, which can be beneficial for students who already spend a significant amount of time engaging in online activities. It provides an opportunity for students to engage in learning without relying solely on digital devices, allowing for a more balanced approach to education. Face-to-face tuition offers several benefits, largely related to the age of the student and their individual learning style and needs. However, it also comes with drawbacks such as limited flexibility, geographic constraints, higher costs, and limited tutor options. We understand the importance of choice and flexibility in education and cater to diverse learning needs and preferences. To discuss your child’s options, book your free consultation today!
